Our Story

From Two Dahlias to a Garden of 1,200

My own dahlia journey began in 2013, when I moved to the farm in the Koue Bokkeveld and started creating a completely new garden. During a visit to buy plants, I happened upon dahlias almost by chance. I bought two. The following year, I bought two more. Then ten.

What started as a small curiosity quickly became a deep love for these remarkable flowers. Over the years, my collection grew to approximately 1,200 dahlia plants representing around 250 different varieties.

But the story didn't stop there. Around 140 of these varieties have been grown from seeds that I cross-pollinated and bred right here in my own garden. Watching a tiny seed develop into a completely unique flower has become one of the most rewarding parts of growing dahlias.

Sharing What I've Learned

Along the way, I realised that growing dahlias can feel intimidating when you’re starting out. Dahlia tubers are an investment, and without the right knowledge, dividing, storing, planting and caring for them can feel overwhelming. One simple mistake can mean losing a tuber—or missing out on the flowers you hoped to grow.

That’s why Blomme Meisie is about more than selling dahlia tubers. It’s about sharing the knowledge I’ve gained through years of growing, experimenting and learning, so more people can experience the joy of growing their own flowers.

Whether you’re planting your first dahlia tuber, creating a cutting garden, or dreaming of breeding your own varieties, my goal is to make growing dahlias simple, achievable and exciting.

From Our Farm to Your Garden

Here in the Koue Bokkeveld, Western Cape, we grow, learn and experiment with flowers through every season. Blomme Meisie brings that farm-grown experience to flower lovers across South Africa, offering carefully selected dahlia tubers, flower seeds and hands-on growing courses.

Every flower has a story.

Ours started with Ouma Judith’s little patch of dahlias — and today, we’re excited to help you grow a little piece of that story in your own garden.

Welcome to Blomme Meisie.
